Links of the Week

A wonderful post from Go Retro! why Rankin/Bass Specials are amazing.  I adore them, and clearly others do too.  I just wish they wouldn't have had Rudolph on TV before Thanksgiving.  There is a rule in my house to have nothing to do with Christmas music, specials, etc. before Thanksgiving is over.  The pessimist part of me thinks they hoped people wouldn't watch so they have an excuse to take it off the air.  It's one of the few times I find myself watching network TV is during December when the specials are on.

Go Retro!  also has some amazing advice from lifestyle superstar Jack LaLanne.  I adore him, and his advice on happiness still has a place in these modern times.  Part of me thinks it much more relevant today then it was when first given.

RIP Elizabeth Taylor

We lost one of the greats this week, the stunning Elizabeth Taylor. She will be remembered for many things:

Elizabeth Taylor was a legend with no equal. I find her life particularly inspiring because despite her incredible beauty, she was an incredibly sweet, loving, generous and hard working. I admire her drive and love of life. I find it inspiring that she was able to accomplish so many wonderful things, despite her many health problems. As someone who has suffered from chronic back pain, like Elizabeth, it can be so hard to get out of bed, let alone function in society - yet she was able to win Oscars, help so many people through her charity work, and win the love and admiration of millions of people. RIP dear Elizabeth, and enjoy that wonderful backlot in the sky.

What 100 Stars Want in 1956 - Richard Burton

I'm going to guess that most people know about Richard Burton, but if not, check out IMDB for a bio, but here is my favorite Burton quote: Home is where the books are. Richard Burton's 1956 wishes were:


1. "Perhaps I'd better mention what my wife wants for me - to stop buying and driving so many fast cars." - Poor guy, I love fast cars myself.

2. "Professionally, I hope to grow, to continue to learn and to study. You learn from every picture. Right now, I'm learning from my role in 'The Rains of Ranchipur'." - I've never seen The Rains of Ranchipur. Does anyone know if it's a good film?

3. "As a Welshman, may I hope that someday more people will become acquainted with the beautiful Welsh language and the lovely Welsh songs." - I don't think many people are aware of Welsh songs and language. I became a bit familiar when I was in a the play Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas in High School. I played Mrs Pugh, whose husband keeps trying to murder her. Talk about marital issues. Turns out Richard Burton performed this play on the radio quite a few times.
