For Fashion Friday, I thought I'd put up the remaining sketches for I Love Lucy I have saved.

Feed Sack Fashion

One printed, plain weave cotton feed sack, unstitched wtih band paper label.
Print is a purple ground with a pattern of mandolins with green and orange accents.
Label reads "PILLSBURY'S BEST/XXXX/FEEDS." "100 LBS." Circa 1940s.; MNHS

My Marilyn in a Potato Sack Post got me thinking about I adore feed cloth.  It's beautiful and usable.  Our industrious ancestors used this cloth not only to fold the life giving flour, but for a multitude of cloth articles in the home including towels, rags, clothing, toys, blankets, aprons, and a multitude of other amazing things.

Fashion Friday - Scattered Sketches

Female Costume Sketch (Black and White Gown)

I saved these female costume sketches on my computer and I'm not sure exactly what they are from.  They are obviously stunning, whomever sketched them.  From the look, I'm thinking they are 1950's or 1960's.  Do you agree?

Week in Review

Films I've Viewed

  • The Bribe (1949) - Robert Taylor (Rigby), Ava Gardner (Elizabeth Hintten), Charles Laughton (J.J. Bealer), Vincent Price (Carwood), John Hodiak (Tigwell "Tug" Hintten).  Taylor plays a cop, sent to find a group of people smuggling airplane motors and selling them illegally.  Ava is a down on her luck singer in a seedy nightclub, torn between her attraction to Rigby and her devotion to her shady, dying husband.  Elizabeth's husband is part of the gang, so if he does anything it will hurt her.  Robert Taylor is divine.  One of my favorite leading men.  Ava played the sultry singer well.  I don't think she was worth the trouble, but then, Ava is not one of my favorite actresses.  Charles Laughton and Vincent Price were fabulous as the bad guys.  Their portrayals were worth the film alone.  Well worth the view.

Fashion Friday - Fath and Fashion

Genevieve Fath; March 1948

The lovely Genevieve Boucher de la Bruyere and French fashion designer Jacques Fath are my fashion inspirations for today.  Jacques postwar fashion (post World War II, that is), made him a contemporary of Dior and his "New Look".  Fath is probably best known for designing Moira Shearer's costumes in The Red Shoes as well as Rita Hayworth's wedding dress to Prince Aly Khan.

Week in Review

Films I've Watched

  • I Love a Mystery (1945) - First in the 'I Love a Mystery' B Movie series based on the great radio program of the same name.  Two detectives: Jack Packard (played by Jim Bannon) and 'Doc' Long (played by Barton Yarborough) are on the trail of an oriental cult who prophesied death for a man.  The creepy thing is that the leader of this "cult" offered the man $10,000 for his head which they planned to use for their leader.  They had mummified their leader and wanted to replace his rotting head with the man's (played by George Macready, the villain from Gilda).  Fun mystery.  I was definitely surprised with the ending, which I won't spoil for you guys.

Films I've Watched

  • Penguin Pool Murder (1932) - I love these Hildegarde Withers films featuring the amazing Edna Mae Oliver.  She was such an amazing actress - spunky, with an acid tongue.  Thanks to TCM for playing these gems every Saturday morning.

Fashion Friday - Freaky Faces

This Week; 11 September 1966

I found some cool ephemera when I picked some items from my grandparents home.  Mostly animals pictures from 1960's issues of This Week, some interesting things were on the back of some of those picture.

Fashion Friday - Perfect Petticoat

Plaid Taffeta Petticoat from 1947.  It's absolutely adorable!  I would love a petticoat like that.  I assume the whiteness around the picture was for publication purposes.  If that isn't one of the cutest petticoats, I don't know what is.

Fashion Friday - Pageant Posers

Miss Junior America Shirley Arrow and Miss America Jacque Mercer getting adjusted during a photo shoot in 1946.  I couldn't find any information on Shirley Arrow, but there is plenty out there about Jacque Mercer.

Fashion Friday - Cloche Cool 2

Just like last week, I've got another cute example of a cute cloche hat.  This cool woman looks like she is on the way home from work.  A chic polka dot dress, cute heels, and a cloche hat make this the perfect work day attire in 1928, when this picture was taken.

Fashion Friday - Cloche Cool

Love this chic cloche hat look from 1950.  The hat is adorable.  I love the sleek black pencil skirt, checked jacket, gorgeous gloves, and cute black pumps.  I'd love to wear an every day outfit this chic.
