Vintage Inspiration September 15th Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot

Temps out in MN are roasty. The sun was shining. There was a wonderful breeze. Thought summer was done. Could really use a nice frost so my hay fever would settle down.

I also wish I could have enjoyed the nice weather instead of being stuck at work until 9 PM. No rest for the wicked, I guess. The lovely Esther Williams sure knew how to enjoy a gorgeous day!

Caught Joan Blondell in a bunch of films on TCM this morning. She seems like such a sweetie, and has such a fun persona.

Some Joan Blondell Trivia:

• Real name was Rose Joan Blondell
• She was 5'3" tall, and her measurements were 37-21 1/2-36
• Mike Todd, her third husband, went through all Joan's savings and then left her for Elizabeth Taylor. What a cad!
• She has 208 credits to her name, with a career spanning from 1930 to 1981. Amazing!
• Some of her more famous films include: Grease, Nightmare Alley, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Gold Diggers of 1937, Footlight Parade, Gold Diggers of 1933, and Topper Returns

Having a brain freeze today and couldn't decide what to post today, so I did a randomly selected a photo with my eyes closed. So subconsciously I'm thinking pinup apparently. This lovely lady was a featured pinup in Yank magazine. A last reminder of the summer that is fading . . .

Vintage Inspiration August 27th Ida Lupino

Since Ida Lupino is the Star of the Day on TCM, she's my vintage inspiration for today. I love how totally strong, yet beautiful she was. Never one to care about what other people thought, blazing trails long since dominated by men. One of the greats. I will probably stay up way too late catching the fabulous Ms Lupino on the screen.

My vintage inspiration for today is the glorious Miriam Hopkins. She was featured today on TCM, and I am always struck by the beauty and intelligence of her acting. A forgotten goddess.

Vintage Inspiration August 19th Virginia Davis

Thanks to Living on Velvet for alerting me about the passing of Virginia Davis http://art-deco-dame.blogspot.com/2009/08/rip.html. She was such a sweetie in the Disney Alice films, and I had no idea that her career continued after that.

Was watching A Letter to Three Wives on the t.v. this morning, so naturally the vintage inspiration for today came from one of those actresses. Linda Darnell was a fabulous actress, and obviously stunning.

Vintage Inspiration August 17th

Sorry for the lack of posts recently, but I was on vacation at the Michigan NASCAR races. Spent a week in a camper with my mother and father in-law. Traumatizing. Let me just say tons of heat, snoring, mess, and my father in law can't say no to a beer.

Spent most of the week ill from the heat. Fam didn't believe I was really sick, so they wouldn't let me turn on the air conditioner. Spent the week sun burnt, passing out, and getting sick (from the heat). Will return to usual posts tomorrow. Right now, I could use some rest.

These fun hats are all from Paris and date from 1942-1948

Wonderful creation and ingenuity went into the creation of these beauties

Must have been fantastic to see these on the street on the heads of fabulous ladies



Pretty sure I couldn't pull any of these off. They would just be too much on a petite girl like myself. One can dream though, can't they?
