Vintage Inspiration July 25th

My pumpkin plant is starting to flower. Gorgeouos! Since I have such bad luck with plants, I'm surprised the pumpkin made it.

I adore pumpkins, they are such a cornerstone symbol of my absolute favourite season: autumn!

Fingers crossed that your pumpkins pull through!

Have a beautiful Sunday, hon!

I too have a black thumb. You should see the haggard tomato plants I've got going in the backyard. But the kids love them. I can't wait to see pictures of the pumpkins as they start to grow.

Thanks doll,

Pumpkins are really rewarding to see grow. Don't know if you want any tips...these were things my grandfather, who was a Prairie farmer/carpenter, told me when I planted my first garden: don't let all the blooms turn into pumpkins...once you see a thickening of one of the stems that you think looks like the pumpkin worth nurturing, pick off some of the other blossoms, so they don't steal the nutrients (so you'll get maybe a couple of bigger pumpkins, as opposed to a bunch of punier ones). The plant also needs a fair bit of water at its source (I don't think you need to water the pumpkin growing itself, necessarily, but you might want to check into that. Finally, apparently, pumpkins don't like to get cold; frost can kill them, so if you find it getting bigger and there are colder nights with frost starting, cover your little baby at bedtime ;) Of course, you can take or leave all this, but thought I'd share....worked for me. I had a huge pumpkin that year. Good luck with yours!!!

Oh, me again....I just looked into the watering thing: apparently, they don't need TOO much water, so you don't have to water frequently, necessarily, but they like a good deep soak when you do give them a drink (one site said once a week). Ok, who the heck am I here? The great pumpkin? Definitely not...maybe I should state that I am not a professional and therefore not liable for any pumpkins that don't make it ;) Have a great day!

Thanks for all the great tips girls! I could definitely use them. Just one bloom is growing now, so I'm not sure how many I'll have, but we'll see :)
