The Haunted Palace (1963)

The Haunted Palace (1963) - Vincent Price (Charles Dexter Ward/Joseph Curwen), Debra Paget (Ann Ward), Lon Chaney Jr. (Simon Orne)

Charles Dexter Ward, played masterfully by the wonderful Vincent Price, arrives with his wife Ann, played by Debra Paget, arrive in a village to move into a home he inherited from his ancestor.  His ancestor, Joseph Curwen, was a warlock.  Naturally, the town burned him.  But unfortunately for the townsfolk, he cursed them.

When Charles, his descendant arrives in town, the townspeople fear he will be just like his ancestor.  Not long after inhabiting the home, poor Charles succumbs to the immortal power of his ancestor who takes over his body.  He is bent on gaining power and resurrecting his love.

Vincent Price

A great thriller.  I love anything with Vincent Price.  Add Roger Corman, and you have a gem.  Even though these films were made as cheaply and as quickly as possible, they are usually amazing.  Price is in all of his creepy glory.  This role fits him to perfection.  No one could have done better.

Debra Paget

This film is a great choice for a creepy thriller.  It delivers on every count - fun plot, creepy setting, great acting.  9 out of 10.
