Bette Davis gets a Suntan in her backyard in 1940. I guess some people will go to extremes to get a tan. Since this device looks like it is made from bars and cloth, I'm guessing it is for privacy rather than amplification of the suns rays. Looks more like a coffin to me. Does anyone know what the purpose of this contraption might be?
Does it offer privacy for nude sunbathing? If so, she didn't count on the guy with the camera having a ladder!
ReplyDeleteHmm...seems she wasn't worried about planes or copters. Very odd but it was nearly impossible for her to get any privacy. That photo is quite a "find"!
ReplyDeleteI think it's probably just a privacy thing. Although, looking at this photo, it seems to me that if she was looking to get a tan, the walls would block the sun most of the time. Actually, the more surprising thing is that a star of her stature would be sunbaking at all. I'd have thought she'd be taking super-care of her skin.
